This Philips model 157 is a 5 valve, 4 band job from 1939/40. It even has "Model 157" written on the dial glass.
The front face here has a curved cloth grille cover. Obviously it is going to need quite a bit of work on the cabinet, and a new grille cloth. That could be a bit of a difficult one!
This one has an 8 valve, plus magic eye, dual wave chassis. The red coating on some of the valves, is a shielding. Some radios will not work at all if that shielding is damaged, and others will work, but just don't work very well.
Philips radio with 2 shortwave and 1 broadcast band. From 1937.
Here you can see the 8 inch permag speaker, and the 3 separate sections of chassis. The centre section is the power supply. The red paint on the lower right valve is a metallic screening paint. The valves all have side contacts, instead of the normal pins. Seems to be a typical Philips radio, in that it works fine, but so often they seemed to do things in a more complicated manner than other manufacturers. Some of the wiring between chassis has deteriorated over the years, and I don't dare dare do anything with it if not required! Untouched it will be OK.
